ABOUT Air-Cooled by-the-sea

AC/BSea is the passion project of a husband and wife team who’ve been sports car enthusiasts since way back. Over the last 20 years each have collected a love and a skill for everything automotive; one creative and one mechanical. Ask us about the cars we’ve owned and sold, the cars we can’t bring ourselves to part with, and the cars we wish we had.

JV: I started in automotive in 2002, enrolling in a class called Power, Energy, & Transportation. The class started with making all kinds of silly contraptions for solar energy and culminated with disassembling and rebuilding a small Briggs and Stratton engine. A few years later, I enrolled in higher education to achieve a degree in Engineering. Graduating in 2009, fresh out of school and into an economic downturn, I took the jobs that were available and quietly tinkered away on another small business venture. That small business later became a partnership of maintenance/repair shop coupled with performance & fabrication. That shop gave me a place to practice and hone my skills in fabrication and a playground for building bespoke vehicles. I soon left engineering completely, devoting all my energy to my true passion for vehicles and the pursuit of perfection.

MZ: Cars and motorcycles have always been something fun for me. My first car was an E23 BMW with a car phone the size of a cinder block. Between then and now I’ve owned a ‘66 Galaxie that broke down and constantly needed pushing, ‘50 Ford Business Coupe that rocked a cammed out SBC 283ci engine, 1966 Volkswagen Bug that lacked 2nd gear and reverse, Honda CB350, a 2009 Porsche Cayenne GTS and a bunch of other cool machines. I grew up in the punk rock scene of the 80s, playing shows in Berkeley and San Francisco. My career and education spans the Academy of Art, Cordon Bleu Academy of Culinary Arts, and includes serving as Executive Chef at the Rockhouse Sports Pub and Grill and Sunol Jazz Cafe.
